down like a game of solitaire. It is a grand passion. It seizes a person whole and, once it has done so, he will have to accept that his life will be radically changed." Ralph Waldo Emerson It is with great pleasure we announce our current association with Ms. Theresa Moore, who has accepted the position of Facility Manager here at Silver Creek Equestrian Club. We could have searched the world over and not found anyone that 'fits' as well as she does!! More Each year we literally marvel over the large turnout of totally awesome costumes for the Silver Creek Monster Mash...and this year was, again, a huge success with over 50 entries of the most creative costumes yet!! And what is even more mind boggling is that there never seem to be any repeats…people are ever more amazing with grand new ideas and uncanny creativity each year...what fun…what fun...:>) More Great news...with show season just a few short months away... starting next month, November, Silver Creek is so proud to announce a continuing association now with horse trainer and outstanding coach Sean Zimmerman. If you will remember we brought Sean in for a 'spit shine' last year right before our district and state competition and everyone was very pleased with the resulting wins for our youth team. More As seasons change... We always need to reflect for a moment…as the education(s) received from our own living histories become the building blocks of our futures, and, those memories created become everlasting pictures painted in our minds to review at will. So, a quick review of what I like to remember as the ‘Summer of 06’ is in order before we unveil the next season’s calendar. Last report, we looked at the successful clinic conducted by the outstanding coaches from Auburn University. Unreported to date were the educational clinics conducted by renown showman Sean Zimmerman, putting some last minute ‘show shine’ on our youth group before going to the district 4-H competitions...More Silver Creek wins Pasture Conservationist of the Year Award for Warren County . . .Yea - Our pastures and hay fields have won the Pasture and Field Award of the Year for Warren County !!!! We have worked very hard these past two years to get our grazing and hay pastures in top condition. We are very honored to accept this award and would like to thank our customers, our staff, and service providers for making this possible. We will accept our award next Thursday night at the NRCS annual meeting at Hinds Junior College.
Field Trip to the Youth MQHA Show . . .Youth members, parents and coaches attend the May 6th MQHA horseshow in Jackson, MS…a troupe of more than 25 from the Vicksburg, MS equine educational facility, Silver Creek Equestrian Club, had a special invitation from Tom McBeath to ‘come see’ the MS Youth Quarter Horse team ‘work’ their sponsored AQHA show. Having conducted a clinic at the Silver Creek facility, Tom had seen the potential of the youth group developing at Silver Creek; most, new students within the year and many, new Quarter horse owners. . . More Team Silver Creek . . .You may have seen “Team Silver Creek” on the calendar and wondered --- “Who or what is that??” Currently, Team Silver Creek consists of trainer/instructor Sharon Mulder-Lampley and two of her students – Kasey Slayton and Cari Keyes. Team Silver Creek competed on April 8th at the Cedar Wind Farm Dressage Schooling Show in Oxford, MS. More Updates and Great News!! Several times I have likened us to a ‘3 ring circus’...meaning literally that we have several functions going at once. And when I say ‘we’ and ‘our’, please know that ‘we’ is all of you that have grown with us from the start, or, joined our quest along the way...all of you...have been somehow instrumental in creating what is becoming a well-oiled machine, accomplishing ‘our’ goal of offering professional level equine services, targeting the education of such. It is a challenge for me not to ‘blow our own horn’, fearful that it comes across too boastful, however, I want you all to know that ‘our’ efforts are being recognized region-wide and that you all are a vital part of it...and also know, wholeheartedly, that Silver Creek Equestrian Club is always ‘we, us and ours’, and when you share ‘us’ with others, you can proudly take your ‘ownership’ to heart...because it wouldn’t be happening without all of ‘us’...) More I have to laugh when reading the above statement, obviously Mr. Emerson would have fit right in with our Silver Creek crowd! And age nor gender matters…Camp Silver Creek Spring Break 2006 showed us, again, that once that relationship begins, it crosses all age and gender barriers…from the least little 2 and 3 year olds that cry in their parents arms to be put up on a horse (and worse when you try to remove them), to those of us that have crossed the great divide (and beyond), there is that sense of constant longing for all things related to ‘horses’…be it their eyes, their warmth, their smell, their need of us…when asked, most everyone will express it differently…so many of my students, young and old alike, have said, pretty much verbatim, “I rode myself to sleep last night” or more specifically after their first canter…“I cantered myself to sleep last night”…so my thought is that it is that ‘rhythm of riding’ that holds us all forever… More Combined Tests Event. . . Congratulations to all participants and attendees for the weekend ‘Combined Tests’ event!! We think everyone there will agree that it was truly a treat to see our young riders dressed out ‘English to the hilt’, their horses braided, hooves polished...looking almost ‘foreign’ to our own eyes…confidently riding onto the ‘Dressage Court’, individually accomplishing the tasks ‘called’...courageously entering the ‘Jump Course’, approaching each jump ‘looking up for the next’... More Recap of January 2006 Events...The year 2006 has started with a flurry of events during January. The first week of the month was the final week of the Holiday Christmas Day Camp, providing the members and guests with fun filled days out of school and doing what they like best, riding horses and learning all about what horse care entails...the weather fluctuating, as in December, from the coldest of days to the prettiest of days for camp activities and riding. This year's first set of educational clinics, held on Jan 7th, were full classes, starting with a 'Canter Departure, Lead Change...Review and Practice for Tom McBeath' in the morning; and after lunch, 'In the Round Pen', A Little Cowboy's School, allowing young members to see and participate in 'horse handling from the beginning'; while 'Showmanship…Get Ready' was practicing in the arena...quite a day! More The January 14th, 2006 Clinic with Tom McBeath was a complete success, undeniably accomplishing our goal to present to Mr. McBeath our Silver Creek program of educational clinics, instruction in what I have coined as 'Universal Horse Handling' and, of course, the 'proof'...a large turnout of students, that 'rode' up to the level of his expectations. He was impressed, and I was 'oh so' proud! More SC Future Plans.....Alliances made at Auburn, U of Georgia, MS State... In a previous "In the News" email, we made the closing statement...'we have plans for the future'... Review of our progress at Silver Creek made in the short first year and a half of operations, and, planning for the upcoming year's events has made us acutely aware of the fact that we are well on our way... and in the right direction!! Several 'markers' have allowed us to become clearly focused in our mission to offer more premier educational opportunities in the "equestrian" genres. Most recently, because we have several students 'college bound' ... More information. |
